you probably have the 2WIRE router from AT&T,if the wireless light is not on that means the router is not detecting any wireless adapter.you need to check that the wireless adapter in your computer is active & enabled.you don't need to get another wireless router, what you have there is a modem & wireless router combo.email me & give more details so i can assist better.

You have to "talk" to the modem to set up some addreses and passwords. If you don't use a router, then your computer will have to have a wireless modual. With the modem should have come an instruction book. You fire up your web browser and type in the address for the modem. Personally, I don't like wireless. I use the ethernet card, router, DSL. A router does a lot of the work for you when you tell the computer to assign dynamic addresses on connect. Not sure about the cost of a wireless modual for the computer vs. cables -- router -- cabel.

The wireless light will come on when there is a wireless connection. The lights only come on when the connection is active. When connecting to the DSL modem wirelessly, you will need to know which device to connect to and what the encryption key is, that information is on the label on the bottom of the DSL modem. The network name will be 2WIRE### where the ### is the last three digits of your serial number and yes wire does have to be in caps, and the encryption key will be the 10 digit code listed in square brackets.

Not necessarily.
Most likely it means that either no one is connect to your modem wirelessly right now, or it's been turned off in the config file.

Easy way to find out is to do this.
Click on START
Click on RUN
type in CMD
Hit Enter.
When the black command window comes up,
type
ipconfig
then hit enter.
a number will come up under the default gateway.
write that number down.
Now, open an internet explorer window and type that number in the address bar.

That should take you to the admin section of your router where you can check to see if it's turned on.

WARNING.
Be careful in there. If you don't know what you're doing, you can mess up your internet.

Good Luck!

No.

Just call your Internet Service Provider:

800 827-6364 = AOL
888 829-8466 = Earthlink
877 777-7371 = Road Runner
877-722-3755 = AT&T | SBC

you got to call AT & T and ask how can you turn on the wireless connection. dont tell them that u are connecting another computer if they do ask jus say i need to connect the laptop for one or two days.
they should give u the IP number where u can go and turn it on and then that green light should come on.
