Ok well my laptops internet is not working.
It is connected and it says that the local area connection is enabled. It is connected to a modem. The modem is working on the computer i am on now so there is nothing wrong with it.
I tried to go to the connections tab in internet options and i looked for local area connection and it did not appear in that list. I just need help on how to set the local area connection as my default connection. The internet worked like a few months ago on it so I need help. Thanxx!

I have a desktop with a regular router hooked up to it,
it works fine. I also have a laptop with wireless capability
& an old wireless router. The only way I can connect to
my network with laptop is to plug a wire in the desktop.(BIG PAIN IN THE ***. Otherwise, what's the NIC for?)
I was wondering if there was some way to hook up the wireless
router to the same computer as I have the regular router on.
Thanx.
N.

We just switched from Cox high speed internet to AT&T DSL. I tried hooking up the router to get wireless on my laptop but it didn't work. Do I need to do something specific or will LINKSYS not work with DSL?

I remember seeing something on wikipedia about a networking mapping technology that showed a whole bunch networks and nodes and it looked kind of like a galaxy. I think the goal was to map the internet or something. anyway i was wondering if anyone knew what i was talking about and had a link to the project site?

please help. I have searched the Tinternet.
I have 2 computers with Wireless PCI cards installed. They are both hooked up to my broadband 2wire router.
They are both connected to the network 2WIRE265. :)
However I can not see any folders on each other computers? How can I find out my ip adress and do that ping thing?
I tried start - Run winipcfg but keep getting an error message. even when I disconnetc from internet.
I can access internet on one pc but the other one I can't?
When I click on my network places it is blank.
Do I have to setup a workgroup?
I even downloaded AnalogX Proxy to act as a server so I can use my 1 connection to access internet on both computers??
Hope you can help.

My computer states that the my connection speed is 100Mbps, but when I connect my laptop it only connects at 46Mbps. Is there anyway I can get my desktop and laptops to be faster. I am using a Wireless 2.4 gig router. I am connecting through a Cable modem, and I know the speeds are faster then that. Can someone help. Thanks.

We've brought a netgear router and we've been having problems getting it to work. I've got a desktop and a wireless laptop. We're able to get online but it only seems to last for about an hour then we have to unplug the router and it works again for another hour and so on.......
We don't have any firewalls up or anything else that I know of that would be affecting it.
I'd be greatful for any advice you can give me

I went to my router's address and typed in the default username and password as posted on the back of the router itself, but it doesn't work. Could it have been changed?
OR
I'm logged in as another user on the computer, not the main user. is that why I can't access it?

Recently we switched from DSL internet to Cable and with DSL we had the wireless router working just fine and we were able to use our laptop for work using a wireless adapter and a wireless adapter to play online video games on the PS2. Anyway, its a D-Link AirPlus Xtreme G 2.4GHz wireless broadband router. I connected two ethernet cords: one from the computer to the router, one from the router to the modem. The lights were flashing like they should be getting a connection but they weren't and I wasn't able to access the internet. We had purchased this router about 5 or so years ago but its worked fine, even though we've only had DSL. Please help me set this up. I called D-Link and they want me to call someone and pay to have this done. Thought it was too simple of a task, maybe just enter some numbers in the computer. Thought I'd ask here first. Please help! Thanks

When trying to get my pc on dsl I was taken to the DOS command to ping my ip. When I did it said my request was timed out. I've even manually put in my ip but still get this. The online tech said it would only take 5 mins. for a tech to fix but I can't afford $45. for him to do so & this pc is so old I'm having to optimize it every few mins. Does anyone know how to instruct me to do this or someplace online that can do it for free as my hubby's out of work. May God bless everyone who helps.
