I want to run a web server to serve a couple of pages to myself when I'm at work. However, I don't want to get cut off by my ISP. I'm using port 8181. Would using a vpn disguise the connection? Hamachi maybe?

I am trying to figure out if I can connect to the internet via Knoppix 5.1.1 live cd. Everything seems to boot just fine, and during bootup it says that eth0 and DHCP is detected. I tried to configure kwlan, but apparently I am doing it incorrectly or it isn't possible. I am new to Knoppix and Linux and so I am not very sure. My network seems to show up in kwlan, I clicked the "Activate" button, but I cannot get online. I have no firewall. I am trying to connect with a Broadcom 802.11b/g WLAN - Packet Scheduler Miniport. Any ideas?

Can I set up a wireless network without hooking up the DSL cable into the laptop. There are 5 laptop users in my house and none of them want to be stuck at one place. Is there any wireless solution so that we can take our laptops around the house? Thanks a lot!

I have 60 computers on a network. Its been a wile since I have added a new one. An Employee came in and asked for their laptop to access the network. They are running XP Pro. All the other computers you have to hit CTRL ALT DEL and log in with a password. I need this one to do the same. Plus I need it to be able to access network shared printers. I think if I solve the problem above this will fix my printer issue.

I have myself a network with 2 pcs joined together with a router and a modem. The first PC's connection is always stable, but the other disconnects every now and then, for 15 minutes. Why is this?

This has only been happening for the last few days. Before that, both connections were fine.

Thanks in advance!

I do this almost everyday. Our connection in Main PC is working fine and configured manually both the DSL and LAN, the shared PC is authomatic cause it won't work manually. What might be the cause of this problem?

i have just set up a new network , i bought a 24 port D-Link switch (10/100MB) and i have bought 8 network cards for my 8 computers i wanna connect ...i have used the T-568B Straight-through wiring method all my cable , plugs are plugged good and i have set up static ip's on all my computers (192.168.0.1 ......8) the connection distance between each computer and the switch is about 10 to 20 meters which is not a long distance for a signal to be lost ...my problem is that my network is slow for example if i want to open a shared folder on a remote computer when i double click that folder i have to wait for 20 to 30 seconds for that folder to open ...i used the ping to see if there are dropped packets and my reply was >1ms which is great , i even tried to mess with LMhosts also no change , what can i do to speed up my network ??? thanks in advance for any ideas

Hi, I have just begun a networking course, so its all new to me!

here is a hyperthetical example I have been given but don't know how to answer!

Computer 1

ip address: 192.168.12.113
subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
default gateway: 192.168.12.1

Computer 2

ip address:192.168.12.205
subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
default dateway: 192.168.12.1

Computer 3

ip address: 192.168.112.97
subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
default gateway: 192.168.12.1

Using this information I have to answer if all these computers are on the same network and explain my answer.

It then goes on to ask, if something is wrong, what is likely to be the problem?

Please help, thanks in advance Matt!

We've decided to go ahead and sign up for Comcast Internet service, which means tackling setting up a home network. I'm pretty mystified by the range of equipment choices.

Our situtation: one desktop on second floor and one notebook on the first floor--pretty much directly below. Desktop is about 2 years old, notebook in process of being replaced with new one. Looking at 6mb Comcast service, but may replace it with Verizon FIOS once that hits our area.

I had looked at the Motorola SBG1000 Gateway, but I'm thinking the all-in-one isn't a great idea if you need to upgrade or replace one part of it. So now I'm looking at the Motorola SB5120 modem and the Linksys WRT54GL router.

Any reason these are or aren't good choices? Anything I should consider?

I have a linksys router. 2 computers are wired to the network through the router. I'd like to be able to block internet access to a specific computer (kids box) using the router's settings. Is this possible? If so, how do ya do it?

Does anybody have a desktop hooked up to a router via a wireless network card/USB adapter for WINDOWS VISTA? If so, do you have the model #?
I have LINKSYS ROUTER and want to connect a new computer that has VISTA.
