I have a linksys router. 2 computers are wired to the network through the router. I'd like to be able to block internet access to a specific computer (kids box) using the router's settings. Is this possible? If so, how do ya do it?

depends on the router, you will have to find the manual for the router. They are available online at the router manufacturers website. Look for a section on parental controls.

I have blocked internet access to computers by putting false DNS servers in the nic settings, use a DNS server like 254.254.254.254, which shouldnt exist as a DNS server and it wont be able to access the web.

I suppose this is a dumb answer, but why don't you just remove the pc from the network? Problem solved. Better yet, remove the ethernet card & you'll be sure the child never gets online unless you want him/her to.

Restricting access via the router really depends on the router. Better routers have access control for different network components (in this case your kids pc). You specify which pc via name or mac address to block http access to.

You can also block/restrict website access from internet explorer under parental controls. & the feature is password protected so the child can't get into it. Though, I would also recommend that the childs user name be given restricted user level rights just because depending upon the child & their pc savvyness putting up a few blocks might not really stop them effectively.

Get on his laptop and disconnect it from the advert hoc community. Then replace the password for the advert hoc so as that he can not reconnect. Or, if he's not tech savvy, disable the instant adapter motive force on his laptop.
