I went to my router's address and typed in the default username and password as posted on the back of the router itself, but it doesn't work. Could it have been changed?
OR
I'm logged in as another user on the computer, not the main user. is that why I can't access it?

make sure you typed it in correctly, and that you didn't have caps lock on .. make sure you typed the address correctly ... usually something like 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 depending on the router itself ... it doesn't matter what computer you're logged onto or what user you're logged on as ... if you still can't get it to work, there's usually a reset button on the router (usually a small button that you have to push in with a pen) .. that should restore it to default settings.

If you have a wireless router, be sure that you are using a logon key. Otherwise, anyone in the general vicinity can change your settings, especially if you left the user name/ password on default settings

It could have definetly been changed. If you left the default router username and password then anyone who has a wireless connection could access your router and change it because the default usernames and passwords are well known to anyone who wants to do a search on the internet.

You can always to a router reset and put all its settings back to default so you can gain access to it, but this will also set your internet and security settings back to default, so if you dont know how to set everything back up this could be a headache for you.

To do a reset, look on the back of the router for a pin hole labeled reset button. Hold it in while you turn off the routers power. Keep holding and count to 10, then plug the power back in and release the reset button. Everything should be set back to factory defaults now.

Either you have the wrong user name or password, Caps Lock is on, Num Lock is on. Usernames are usually not case-sensitive, but passwords usually are.

Should not matter how you are logged onto the computer itself.

Your manual or the manufacturer's web site should tell you how to do a "factory reset" . This will set ALL settings to default on the router, including the account and password.

So if you have any custom settings in the router, they will have to be redone.

Hi,
If you typed in 192,186.0.1 this should take you into your router setup screen, if it does not try a router reset there a pin hole on the back of the unit press and hold it in for 30 sec's then try again but this will total reset all your setting.
