ok, i have comcast internet and i have a switch i want to use to connect multiple computers up through, however when i do, the only computer that gets internet is the one that is turned on first or the one thats basically connected first, is there any way around this?

Nope, not using a switch anyways. your internet connection will always be connected to the first online computer.

You need a router which will route your internet connection to all computers.

I assume the switch you refer to is a router, as this would be required for simultaneous networking of this type.

The problem beyond that is with the IP addresses. You could try to turn on network sharing on the computers themselves but I can tell you from experience that it is far easier to rent an extra IP address from Comcast, one extra IP per computer beyond the first, although this costs a little extra (I think $10 or so / month / IP), it is by far less headache.

But, you still need a router, you can get these nowadays for anywhere from 20 - 30 dollars or so and don't forget the extra network cable (or two).
