If you can use your wireless internet in some of the house, but not upstairs then it not really a wireless problem so much as an interference problem.

You can try two things. Try moving the router to a central location in your house and place it as high as possible or you can purchase a high gain omni directional indoor antenna and connect it to your router.

Kim Kommando says most of the problems with wifi within a home is the location of the router antenna.Microwave ovens, dish satelites and many other things can cause interference. Here is her site:

She suggested moving the antenna to the middle of the house.Good luck.

You might want to consider getting a router with some sort of range extengin capabilities. I use a Linksys router (has some crazy name I forget) and it's got a 4x range extending capability. I have the router in my basement and I get an "excellent" signal on my 3rd floor and a "good" signal in my attic.

My house is on 3 floors and I have the same problem.
I solved it by installing an additional wireless router upstairs and configured both of them with WDS (wireless distribution system). This means you can extend the range of your network without installing any more wires.
