I have a linkysis wifi router that I connect to the internet fine, without any password WEP or WAP but I cant access the router home page, 192.168.1.1 without providing a password. I usually just entered admin for username and password but it doesnt work anymore. Is it possible to get this password while I am connected to the router. I dont want to reset the router because I have some specially made settings that will be lost.
Thanks for any info.

As you have stated "I usually just entered admin for username and password (but it doesnt work anymore)", this is the problem for most people. People tend not to change their pw of their routers, hackers know the default, they just can easily access to your router and do anything they wish. It is always advised to change your router default password.

In your case, nothing i can advise but asking you to reset your router, by using the tip of a pen or a paper clip and press the small button on the back of the router, then log onto your router change the password and set your setting again, and if there is an option in the router for you to make a backup for your setting, do that, in case you have to reset your router again.

Looks like either you or someone else in the house changed the admin password. Make sure that your caps lock is off and try admin as username and admin as password. If that doesn't work, you're going to have to reset the router. I know you have settings in there, but that's the only way you can get to it. Worst case scenario, you'll have to re-configure those settings.

Get rid of the static IP address, set it back to "Obtain IP address automatically" and reboot the computer. Plug the ethernet cable into one of the four LAN ports on the router, and the other end into the ethernet port on the computer, (You can't do the setup wirelessly), turn on the router.Leave every thing alone for about 30 seconds. Go to the computer, click on start, then run, in the run box, type "command" (no quotes). A black window should open up, type "ipconfig" you will get some information, but what you are looking for is the IP address, it should start with 192.168, and will either be 192.168.0.XXX or 192.168.1.XXX (XXX being any number between 2 and 254) remember this or write it down. Type "exit" and the command window will close. Open your browser, and ignore any error messages, if your IP address was 192.168.0.XXX, type 192.168.0.1 in the address box in your browser, if it was 192.168.1.XXX, type 192.168.1.1 and hit Enter, that should take you to the setup screen for your router.

If you had an unsecured wireless router with the passwords set to their defaults, someone may have compromised it and changed the settings. I'd do a reset to factory settings, change the password from the default, and use WPA encryption.

Are you sure that's the correct address? Perhaps it's 192.168.0.1 or something else?

Could someone have changed the password? If so, and you don't know it, the only way to clear it is to reset the router back to factory defaults.

Hi,
Sorry but you will have to reset to access your router, have you just set the MAC address up, if this is your problem just set the WEP and then monitor the MAC address log on to it so you can remember them then reset them correctly.
