Im pretty much retarded when it comes to technical terms involving the internet or computers, so I'm going to ask this as simple and basic as possible.

I have a wireless router through Verizon and supposedly they have plans from 768kpbs to 3mpbs. I believe I'm on the lower of the two. However, when i plug a CAT6 cable from the router to the first computer , it says it is operating at 100mpbs, then the other is on a Belkin wireless link, operating steadily at 54mpbs. How is this so? what is the TRUE speed and if I were to go to the 3mpbs plan from Verizon , would it increase all the other computers?

Anyone with a good answer would be much appreciated because I am clueless

Hi, this (to me) is quite technical.

I resell web hosting and recently moved to a more economical provider.

I purchased 2 dedicated ip addresses. 1 of them would not resolve at all and the other one resolved to a completely different website.

I enquired and was given 2 new IP addresses and was told that it should be working shortly.

That was yesterday and its still not working. I have now been told it could take up to 72 hours (which I have read elsewhere too). So at this point there is not really a problem.

However what I am worried about is this....

What happens if after 72 hours it is still not working, will I have to wait a further 72 hours as it looks like my new host does not really know what they are doing?

OR.... is there a way I can check the progress of my DNS update (i have tried the usual dnsstuff and dnscheck etc) or is there some way I can actualy confirm he has done what he says he has done.?

cheers

PS... its a .com domain if that makes a dif.

We both have Netgear wireless routers and would like to be able to file share. But we each have our own separate Internet connections within our LANs.

Cheers!

it is a very intermittent problem. one minute I can ping a FQDN and the next I can't but before I can find the problem it start resolving the FQDN again. When it is not resolving the FQDN it still resolves the host name. I can still ping hostname but not FQDN.

I have a PC running XP Professional with a wireless network card and a shared printer connected to it. If I log onto the PC the printer is available on my wireless network.

If I turn my PC & printer on, but don't log onto the PC I can not access it on the network.

I know that PC's do not have to be logged in to be accessible over a wired LAN, but do they have to be logged in to be on a wireless network?

We have a laptop which could detect and connect to the wireless access point but could not be seen by others in the network. I tried pinging from the laptop to our server but gives a response of "REQUEST TIME OUT". I tried pinging also the access point from the laptop but gives request time out as response also.

The laptop runs on static IP and has the same subnet as the access point and everyone else on the network. The firewall has been disabled. It is new, only Windows XP and the drivers have been installed, no third party firewall.

Please help, thanks!

I am getting ntl fitted this weekend. I want to go wireless - will any router do? Or does it have to be a special spec, as it's cable? If so, what spec?

I have Sky Wireless Broadband on my PC and use a Netgear Wireless Adapter. No problem.

I've just bought an Advent laptop and I'm using the built in wireless modem but couldn't get it to connect to Sky, it just kept saying 'aquiring IP address' then 'low or no connectivity'

I phoned Sky but was cut off twice but before I was, one lady was talking about disabling my security which I did.

I have since managed to get a connection but with my security disabled, my question is, how do I get both connection and security?

Is it possible to connect a second pc (wired) to a router if you have Windows XP Home. If yes, how do I do it. Is it simply a case of plugging the cable in to both ends?
