Okay so I got a Netgear wireless internet router yesterday for my Windows XP laptop. I got it all set up and then the set up went to update the internet or something, and it keeps saying that there is no connection. I tried all the troubleshooting crap, and it still won't work. What do I do?

Hi

Follow the steps...

1) Try doing a hard reset of your router once and then try reconfiguring. this solves most of the issue

2) Make Sure all the connectivitey is good between the modem router and computer.

3) Try connecting the laptop directly to router to see if it works.

4) Call the support atlast...

I think you are following the Automatic setup from the CD that came with your NETGEAR Router.

That works fine if you have a direct connection to the internet.

But in most cases you wont have a direct connection. You need to configure some IP address a user name and password.

So you have to manually enter the NETGEAR router configuration page to configure the options.

Connect the Network cable that came with the router to your computer and any one of the router poerts which are numbered 1,2,3,4.

Now go to Control Panel > Network Connections.

Open Local Area Connection and give the ip address as 192.168.1.2. Subnetmask will automatically appear.

Now open internet explorer and type the address as 192.168.1.1/advancesconfiguration.html

this would take you to netgear configuration page where you can tell ur ISP Settings. Once that done you can access internet in your laptop.

Do remember to configure Wireless security by using MAC Address filters and disabling SSID Broad Caste.

Its a easy job but needs someone who has done it before.

I have setup NETGEAR Routers few times before.

If you still need any assistance you can get back to me.

I think you should set up a new connection and delete the other connections that are just trash in your system.
