I just set up a workgroup network in my home, and I selected some files to share. When I go in from the other computer to access those files, it say I do not have permission to access those files, and to check with administrator. But I specifically set it up myself to do so.....any ideas??

My computer connects to my home network oner a wireless network. The router is far away from my computer in another room so I usualy get a weak siginal all the time. I see these wireless cards that are advertised to increase the range of the siginal and get better reception from far away. Do these realy work?

I have a wireless network in the house, and my laptop connects fine to it, but obviously the desktop is not wireless.

I know you can buy wireless USB sticks for desktops, so it simply goes into the USB port and makes the desktop wireless, please can someone exactly what item I should buy for my desktop? I want something that will allow it to work far away from the modem as possible, with best speeds.

Thankyou,

Shyam

now my question is
when you are on a gaming server, let's say WoW
the further away basically the higher your ping is correct?
also does your high ping lag the server? or is the server indepedent
i hear people say the server is only fast as the slowest computer that connects to it
is this true?
for any game or any networking situation?

I'm seriously considering getting a new macbook pro for college, but I know that the majority of dorms have wireless linksys routers. I have an old mac here at home with old airport capabilities, and it won't work with my linksys router that I have for this pc notebook. Anyone know if the new macbooks and their Airport wireless can work with pc based linksys wireless routers? Cause if they don't, getting a mac would be a complete waste of my money. (I'm not looking for an argument on which is better, mac or pc, I've already made that decision, please just answer the question.)

Ok so, my husband went out and bought me a new computer. I hooked it up to his network and personalized everything. It was doing really well until around the 3rd day, then it started getting slower and slower. As this was happening, HIS computer started going haywire with pop up ads, being slow and so forth. If you think you can help me at all, please IM me. It will be a lot easier for me to explain. You can reach me at sexininjette69 on yahoo. Thanks so much.

My computer has a wireless adapter and is linked to the internet through the computer in the other room. I want to set up a network where each computer can access files from the other, and I want to access printer sharing. Can anyone tell me how to set up a network like that, or point me to a link that can walk me through the steps?? thanks!
