Do I need a network adapter for the old desktop? Plus, do I connect the network adapter and LAN connection to the router?

I have windows xp sp2 on both computers. When I went to a major retail store, I was told all I needed was a dsl router and a network cable to connect both computers. My old computer does not even pull up my new computer on the home network, but mine does. Plus, my printer refuse to connect. I just need help!

If you're already using a router you might want to make sure your new computer is set to share.

What operating system do you have on your computers? Have you set up the network settings on both computers? The settings have to be exact. You also have to set up sharing permissions. Have you checked to see if you have a firewall preventing connection? Are you using a wireless or cable network connection?

What operating system are each computer running?

You should have network cables and adapters running to the router from both computers.

If one connects to the other there should not be a problem with the connector. Check that you have added teh sharing rights set correctly on the newer pc. Search for computers near me in explorer.
