If you're talking about a windows system the best way is to right click on your network places icon and select properties. Then you should see your ethernet adapter icon right click this and select status. On the following window at the top click the support tab then the details button. This will show you your physical address which is your MAC address. MAC addreess are the code assigned to the actual hardware and cannot be changed which is why they are good to use for network security i.e MAC address filtering.

At the command prompt type ipconfig /all, then "enter." Your MAC address will appear along with the IP address.

So far everyone is talking crap... Go to the apple icon in the top left corner and click on it and select 'about my mac'.... a box will come up with 'Mac OSX' (I'm presuming you have an up to date system?) then click on 'more info' which will show your system profile.... click on 'network' in the left column and it will show you your IP address.
