Forget about rearranging router position or adding more antennas to it. Instead, if money is not an issue replace it with a 802.11n (wireless-N) based router which offers better range (up to 4x) and speed (up to 12x - if you have the appropriate wireless adapter installed). This one is also backward compatible with your existing 802.11b/g/a devices so nothing else to buy unless again if you want to make use of the extra speed.

Reduce the walls between your router and the laptop. Also make sure that the antenna is raised, and perhaps move the router up to shoulder height.

Consider buying a range booster.
