now my question is
when you are on a gaming server, let's say WoW
the further away basically the higher your ping is correct?
also does your high ping lag the server? or is the server indepedent
i hear people say the server is only fast as the slowest computer that connects to it
is this true?
for any game or any networking situation?

Not necessarily, ping only refers to the amount of time taken for information to reach it's destination. This dependes on distance, network traffic and hardware used etc.

yes the further away the ping gets higher, since you need to go via more pc's/servers to reach the main machine.
and yes if people are on the server with high ping, the server needs to use more bandwidth to sent that user the game status/graphics etc.
