I have my broadband connection from BSNL. How do I find out what speeds I get consistently? I tried speedtest and other websites, they wouldn't give me consistent figures. In fact some of them measured the speed from cache and reported that I have 100mbps connectivity!

Is there a software that I can download and check the actual speeds provided to me? Please help.

my laptop got fixed recently and they said they'd updated the bios. after that, i havent been able to access the internet. i have a wireless internet connection and one of my laptops works, but the one i had fixed wont. it says i have an excellent connection on it and stuff, but i can't go on msn or anything. is this to do with my network, and what is the "bios" update, and would it stop me going on the internet? is there any way i can fix this?

The broadband ADSL modem is kept at a distance of 40 meter from the PC. When connected, and if I check the network status, only data is seen sent and no data is being received. Is it something connected with the length of the cable?

I use the freeYahoo mail extensively and frightened of losing my stored emails, attachments etc on that free Yahoo mail site. Can anyone tell me if I will lose these or not when I change over, and if yes I will lose them can you give any advice about how to save what I have on Yahoo mail during the change-over to Broadband? I have no problem connecting to the internet right after booting my computer, but if I leave my computer on and come back a couple hours later, I can not connect to the internet. Sometimes if I click on "repair" it will connect, but majority of the time it doesn't work and I need to reboot. What causes my computer to act like this? I am pretty sure it is not the provider, because I have had cable and DSL service and have had the same problem. Any suggestions? Thanks.
