I've been thinking that a Dynamic IP is where multiple computers can use the same IP and Static is where only one may use it. Am I right?

I have turned off automatic updates, but each time I connect, the modem downloads at least 4 megs of unidentified stuff, completely clogging up the connection. Then, the modem stops communicating and I have to either reboot , or reinstall the driver to make it work. any ideas? thanks!

She logs in and it dials and lets her stay on for about 5 sec and then kicks her off and if she's lucky maybe 5 min, but when she gets it to stay open for about 4 min she tries to open her messenger, it won't connect. She's tried 3 different ISP so i doubt that's the problem, but when she brings her laptop over my house or anywhere else that has a phone line port it lets her connect. Can anyone tell me what the problem could possibly be?

I purchased a DI-524 router and DWLG-122 USB Wireless adapter togther and was able to set up the router easily. I had no problem picking up the wireless signal on my laptop anywhere in the house, but when I attempted to install and use the USB adapter it will not work.

I've installed the latest firmware update, but it still reports that it cannot find a wireless network, even though my laptop is sitting right next to it and reports that the signal strength is excellent.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled numerous times without ever having the USB adapter pick up the signal.

The people I've talked to on the tech support line were very difficult to understand and I have a hard time believing that this can be that difficult as it should be a straightforward plug and play type of solution.

I have not changed any factory defaults so I'm thinking this may be a hardware failure. Any help you can offer would be most appreciated!

I have a Linksys WRT54GS router. Back when I used Netgear routers, they had a feature called "Attached Devices." When you clicked the icon, all devices attached to the router were listed. With the Linksys, only DHCP clients are listed. According to Linksys, this feature is not available anywhere on their router. As far as I'm concerned, not being able to see all devices on my LAN is a significant security risk. What software do you recommend that would simply perform the function of showing me all devices attached to my local network?

We have ethernet cord run all over the house. The way it is set up is that our phone comes in from the outside and the internet is run in to our home office. The outside phone wire is run to our attic, and there is also a wire connecting the office to the attic. We have every ethernet wire in the house running up in to the attic as well. We only have 1 ethernet port in each room. Some rooms we would like both internet and phone. Is this possible?

I have an Actiontec GT701R DSL Modem powered by Qwest and a Linksys WRT54G Router. I have other computers and printers in my home that need to be networked together. I cannot get the Linksys and the Actiontec to work together.

They both have the latest firmware versions installed.

I just want to plug my network devices into my linksys and then have it all move through the Actiontec out to the web. I also would like my wireless to work, but I just need the ethernet stuff to work at the moment.

I have a dire need to get this working as quickly as I can, please help.

I need to update on the following drivers:
-Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller
-VIA Bus Master IDE Controller
-Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC
-Vinyl AC'97 Codec Combo Driver (WDM)
-VIA Standard Host Bridge
-VIA Rev 5 or later USB Universal Hot Controller

I don't quite know where to look right now =/ I have a program called "Device Driver" to find the drivers I need to update, but I can't afford to activate it so that I can d/l the drivers immediately. I wish to update these drivers so it will cause me less trouble in the future.

If someone can help me, I appreciate it!
I use an emachine, and they don't help me look for the updates at all for the drivers that I have, and most of these I don't know the company that made them.

If my Xbox 360 is upstairs in my room and my pc (with modem) are downstairs and the ethernet cable will not extend to the pc what should I do? I DONT want to hassle with wireless communications, but I was thinking since I have a phone cord outlet in my room I could hook up the exsisting modem to the phone outlet and hook my 360 into that or I could just buy another modem and do the same thing. Im already getting highspeed internet as well. (earthlink) Thanks for your time
