Computer Networking - February 2007

first off, it can't connect to the internet while the rest of the computers on my network can. but further than that, I paid for a domain name through yahoo so i have my own website.com. but i ran out of money and i couldn't pay yahoo to host for me anymore. but the website.com is still mine right? I want my new 03 server to host this. I've tried to set up a domain on my server by using the domain wizard. now when my server boots up, i log in to that said domain. but i'm still confused. i made the domain of my server the same name as the domain I paid for, but nothing is happening. I know my biggest problem is to get internet access to my server, but i'm afraid that even if i do, it won't work the way i want it to. I'm currently downloading a few ebooks on 03 server. I don't know how much help they will be because they might be too complicated for me to understand. I'm no dummy, you can be technical in your answers. I just don't have much experience with servers.

I have a Netgear 56 wireless router and ATT DSL internet. In order to conserve energy, and for lack of enough outlets, I use surge protector power strips for many of my electronics.

I use one strip for all my TV, VCR, DVD media and I turn the power strip off when I'm not watching TV. Can I do the same with the power strip I use for my wireless router and DSL modem (i.e. when I go to sleep at night or when I'm not at home...to save energy)...or will it completely wreak havoc on my wireless connection configuration? Reinstalling the router isn't fun. Thanks!

I am getting this message whenever I log off of my pc at work. "windows cannot update your roaming profile. possible causes of this error include network problems or insufficient security rights etc" i could not remember the rest it shut down before i could write it all down. So you dont think I am here to get the easy way out heres what I have done. I have access to the server and have gone into the user folders and removed the inherited permissions from the parent folder, I also gave the user and admin full rights/access from the users folder advanced permission tab. I also went into my folder in the server and gave myself full access as well as making sure its shared Im stumped now please give me some clues.

Thank you in advance.

This should be a no-brainer but tech support I contacted is confusing. i have a westell versalink modem/router for dsl on my desktop computer. I want to connect my second desktop for dsl service using wireless. I got a wireless usb adapter & Software. When I set things up, WHICH computer gets the usb adapter--the main computer with the modem/router or the second computer I want to have feed off the modem/adapter? Should be simple but even the CD instructions just say plug in usb adapter--but don't say to which computer. Also, do i need to check about a wireless card in the second computer or does the usb adapter serve as the card?

Whats the purpose of this and can they go in my computers history from their office and see what websites I have been on? I am looking for another job and I dont want them to be able to see that. Why would they want to net work all of our PC's together? There is nothing on mine that they need.

And am failing miserably. I managed to find it through the cmd.exe but found that it was showing the same name as my Default Gateway which I know isn't it's actual server name. Can anyone tell me how the hell I'm supposed to find the actual name?
