And am failing miserably. I managed to find it through the cmd.exe but found that it was showing the same name as my Default Gateway which I know isn't it's actual server name. Can anyone tell me how the hell I'm supposed to find the actual name?

From what you describe, your gateway is acting as a DNS server. You're probably expecting to see something like "NS1.MYDNSSERVER.COM". If you want to manually assign an alias to your gateway just for DNS, edit your "hosts" file which is located at
"c:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\
ETC\hosts

Example: If your gateway is 192.168.1.1, add the following line to hosts:

192.168.1.1 mydnsserver
