my laptop got fixed recently and they said they'd updated the bios. after that, i havent been able to access the internet. i have a wireless internet connection and one of my laptops works, but the one i had fixed wont. it says i have an excellent connection on it and stuff, but i can't go on msn or anything. is this to do with my network, and what is the "bios" update, and would it stop me going on the internet? is there any way i can fix this?

First of all ... why not mention this to the people who "fixed" it.

There may be a setting in the BIOS that enables or disables wireless communication... but since Windows says you have a connection I doubt that is the issue.

It is more likely that the wireless device's firmware was updated along with te BIOS & now you need to reconfigure your wireless connection. The settings prior to the repair referred to a wireless card that has now been updated & has a new ID...& is seen as a different device than before.

To make a long story short ... just reconfigure your wireless connection. (have the repair people do it since they took it upon themselves to update the BIOS & are responsable ... INSIST on it).
Nothing is broken.

If both laptops end operating collectively then obviously there's a situation with the router/modem or the web connection. a lot less probably (yet obtainable) is interference from a neighbouring instantaneous community. i'd verify inclusive of your service service. they could be able to remotely verify your modem for faults and propose even if the web connection is at fault. you do not choose a firewall in case you've already got a router this has a extra effective equipped in firewall by technique of way for NAT (community handle translation) . So turn all software firewalls off (which includes abode windows personal firewall, AVG and zone alarm) as they could conflict. If the area takes position back, attempt those steps a million) attempt connecting by potential of ethernet cable by technique of plugging between the laptops to the router and word in case you get the web, this may see if there is instantaneous situation 2) attempt pulling the potential from the modem for 20s and then enable to reboot the modem, if you are able to now connect the area is with the modem aspect 3) once you've a separate router do an same as 2) in this way attempt to be able to slender down the fault.
