In my company, our computer department is our MIS department. They oversee all of our daily computer activity and are in control of our networks and servers.

By the way, I work for a huge manufacturing company. Our "MIS" people are all post-grad degreed. I BY FAR say this is a degree for "too stupid" people.

People too stupid to pass all of the classes required to complete a proper Computer Science Degree.... The schools looked at the failure rate in CS and developed MIS as an alternative for people who want to work in the industry, but just aren't as book smart.

The clases mix more business management in with the computer science theory. You will get accounting, statistics, and management classes along with more simplified computer programming like vb.

Its a stripped down version of computer science for people more interested in the business end of things as opposed to the scientific end of things. In the end it doesn't matter what degree you get. I dropped out from MIS & got a great job doing c#.net development. The CIO of my company graducated with MIS and he's not hurting for cash either. Just don't expect too much respect from the computer science types. They'll feel like you got by with less requirements to get the same job.
