I am getting ntl fitted this weekend. I want to go wireless - will any router do? Or does it have to be a special spec, as it's cable? If so, what spec?

Your best bet is to have a look here http://virginmedia.uk.shopping.com/xPP-wireless_access_points

Virgin have taken over ntl so anything you buy from there should be ok

A router is a router is a router. All of the major brands works the same. They all follow a standard called 802.11. So any of them will work for you. Just be sure it says "wireless" on it

You would connect the "uplink" port of the router to your ntl modem. The router will then have additional ports for attaching PCs. It will also broadcast a wireless radio signal that allows wireless computers to attach to the network.

Your computer will need a wireless card installed in it to allow it to receive the signal from the router. If you are purchasing both at the same time, go with the same brand - easier to configure that way.

Finally, realize that a device running wirelessly is going to be slower that a device attached by a cable. The best speed a wireless device can get is 54mbps. If there is anything between you and the router (wall, floor, pipes, wiring, etc) the speed will be less. When attached by cable, you get speed up to 300mbps.

I have ntl/telewest broadband & have used both Belkin & Linksys & Netgear wired & wireless rounters, all have worked fine.
I recommend you buy from anyone apart from ntl, as they will charge more than you will pay at argos, ebay etc.
When enquiring make sure you state that it is to work with cable.
Good luck

It has to be a certain spec! . NTL themselves sell them or you can find them in Argos even eBay.
They will state in the details as to whether it is suitable or not

I think you can only use an NTL routher with NTL broadband.

it truly is intending to envision the gadget with DHCP protocol. that is utilized via potential of many DSL organizations, as well as some Cable organizations. this can set your router up with a singe IP address for the router, assigned via potential of the IP service over the modem, and then the DHCP shopper, will grant separate IP address to each and each and each and each pc, or printer or diverse gadget you connect on your community. it ought to artwork stunning for you, if it truly is what the computerized application needs to practice. save in ideas, you're waiting to continuously press and carry the reset button on the again or bottom of the router to fix to production facility default settings, and commence over. (carry the button for 30+ seconds.)
