All of the computers poll the domain controlers at different time intervals. The interval is usually about 15 minutes but don't expect every computer to have the new policy within 15 minutes. If you need to apply the policy right away on an XP computer, you can go to the machine, open a command prompt, and type gpupdate /force. This will force the new policy to be implemented right away.
