help i know nothing about wireless networks and need to find out about what the basic benefits are - in a simple way

apart from speed or whatever

No ugly wires trailing across the floor, surfing in the garden the list is endless

Hi,
The biggest benefit is you can use other computers in your home without having to connect them by wires to your router.
Another benefit is if you have guests with their laptops they can connect to the Internet.
A drawback is if you don't secure your wireless network it is possible for neighbors or "drive by's to connect.
In my case I have a TIVO that uses my wireless to download program information.
