This computer is on LAN as well as Internet. Can u pl let me know how to do it, some free utility or program and how will everyone acess it from their computers, will they need its IP address ir soemthing else. Also will they be able to create a shorcut on their PC so that they dont have to enter the IP add evertime. What aboyt Macs do they get the priviledge of using this PCs hard drive. thanks for your replies.

My parent's computer has Qwest DSL. My computer doesn't have internet. My parents bought the Linksys wireless-G Broadband Router and it is hooked up to their computer. On my computer, a Linksys Wireless-G PCI Adapter was installed. when we click on the "linksys" network and click connect, it says "waiting for the network..." and it waits and waits and then quits and then tells you at the bottom of the screen that "Windows is unable to connect to the 'linksys' network." Then I clicked the "repair button and it still couldn't connect. What's weirder is that sometimes it says that it is connected, but I can't surf the internet or share files and the printer, so pretty much it isn't connected, and soon it will say it isn't connected again. I don't think the problem is with the router because I could do Nintendo WiFi Connection on my DS using it. Can someone please tell me how to make our computers connect?

does a router hide your ip address since it assigns a new ip address that covers up your original ip? Or thats not how it works? Please clarify, Thank you.

I am trying to use my friends internet connection using my own laptop. The connection works well in his laptop, but when I tried to plug the LAN cable to my computer it shows that I am connected but I can't browse or surf the internet. I tried to see the settings, and it seems that I dont have a gateway address where in fact when the LAN cable is plugged to my friends computer it has a gateway address. I tried to fix this problem by manually entering the gateway address etc but it still wont work. Please help me to solve this problem.

When I tried to connect again to the same wireless connection name, it could connect and I have an IP address assigned to my computer. But it wouldn't open any web pages, connect to IM, and etc. I havent change any connection settings, what's wrong and how do I fix this problem?

My broadband speed is not up to scratch. I have decided that it is because of the extremely poor telephone wiring in my house! How much will it cost to have the entire system replaced? Including the master socket and its connection to the external/main telephone network.

Please help!!! Does anybody have any ideas as to how much this would cost roughly?

Any help given is much appreciated!!!

although the computers are sharing an Internet connection, my sons computer has the Ethernet in his SCSI drives card- his 'network connections folder has an icon, that states functional, it says "network bridge MAC Bridge mini port". Could someone please tell me exactly what this is,what it does and what it means? Is there a web place where I can read up on it, I may need to know this for a customer in the future, if they have me do networking, I'm new to it, very green!

A 56K Modem gives us the maximum uploading rate of 33.6Kbps but maximum downloading rate is 56 Kbps from an ISP. Why is there so much difference in uploading and downloading rate? Is there some way to increase the uploading speed as well?
