i have a linksys router wrt54g. my programs are saying its firewalled. i have removed the windows firewall before i got the router and no problems until now. there is no active firewall present. is the router limiting me? how to change settings to overcome this?

You probably need to forward the ports used by your torrent software.

Your Linksys router IS a firewall.

The router may have a firewall that is blocking the traffic. You may also want to update the firmware on your router.
But beware, you will get a lot of adware, spyware, and crimeware on your machine on bittorrrent and emule.

You have to go into the configuration to set up port forwarding to that your bittorrent clients can connect.
