I have seen that I am a dynamic customer of a Leading ISP in US and I am seeing that from the past 10 days i am getting the same IP address. whereas as per the rules of a dynamic customer the ipaddress refreshes every 8 hours. but my ip address shows "interim update" . What exactly does it means. ?

my problem is the same as this forum http://forums.dnsstuff.com/tool/post/dnsstuff/vpost?id=655251&trail=15#14 - i just dont understand how to fix it. If i reset my modem the internet connection works then it dials out and I get the "your DNS appears unable to resolve IP adresses". But when the internet doesnt work my downloads in bittorrent still work so my connection is still there. Please help! thanks!

I am a student, sharing a house with other students. Well I'm the last one to leave for the holidays but I was not sure what to do with the router. At the moment, our route is plugged in at the hall (the only place with a phone line). However, our area has had a lot of burglaries and I am sceptible about leaving the router there easy to steal if we do get burgled into. However, I was not sure if it was unplugged for a while (I'd then bring it home with me or at least lock it in my room) that I would lose all the settings and having to set up the wireless connection again (it was a huge stress getting it set up the 1st time). The settings have been saved so when we reset it they are still there but wasn't sure if it was unplugged for a long time if it lost its settings.

Hi, yesterday when my computer try to enter power saving mode it froze and I force shut it down and went to bed.
Today after I turned it on, it is not detecting my internet cable, even its plugged in it still says that for the area connection, internet cable is unplugged.
1. I cleaned the port and the plug
2. I tried another cable
3. pinging myself work so I dont think the internet card died
4. my other computer connect through the same internet with router still can go online.
5. the light on the router for my laptop cable is not on
6. my internet card is realtek RTL8168/8111 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC, their website sucks and I dont know how to update its driver (I dont have the CD)

I have two computers networked via a network cable (no hub). Currently one computer connects through the other so I have to turn on the main one even if I just want to use the other one.

Is there a way I can set it up so that either of the two can connect to the internet when the other is turned off?

I am using a dial up (modem) connection and have a single phone jack available with a multiple adapter that gives me 2 phone "out" jacks that I can plug into the modems.

adminstrator password, it shows two computers on a network.

I never networked any computers. This "network's connection is off and on.

Off now.

I run XP on a cable connection, and I have a Linksys Modem and Router.

My system is regularly updated, scanned, and defragged. My settings are correct.
