I have a desktop and 2 laptops. Currently the desktop is hooked to my Linksys router and my laptops run on the wireless network. I want to move my desktop to an area of hte house that currently doesn't have a phone jack (i.e. no access to the DSL connection).

Is it possible to leave the modem/router where it is and have the desktop connect via wireless, or does the router have to connect to at least one computer?

I have a hunch i know the answer, but am hopeful someone can give me a suggestion that will avoid me having to put in a new jack. thanks!

For some reason when I print with the network printer it says "document failed to print." But if I try and print the same document again it prints. I have to press the print function multiple times just to get the one page to print. Why is this? Thanks for any help!

outlook express. I'm on a wireless conection at a friends house. I can receive but not send. I get a message that my connection to the server has failed. Also, "socket error:10060 error number 0x800ccc0e. I have no problem sending messages from my home, my office, my kids' house, just cant do it from this place. I have a feeling it has to do with the wireless connection, maybe because its password protected. I don't have to do anything to connect to this wireless network. it detects and connects automatically.

On my PSP, I can easily type in a password for a wifi network and access it. However, at my home, our wireless router is set up so only the MAC addresses of a select number of computers/devices can connect. I typed in the MAC address of my PSP, however the PSP can't connect with this MAC Address filtering. Does the PSP Support this?

Hi everyone,

I want to use my internet connection wireless from my laptop.
I don't have a wireless modem, but i have;
1 PC
1 laptop (wireless featured)
1 DSL modem (no wireless)

My question is;
if i buy an USB wireless adapter,
can i plug it to my PC and
share the LAN connection, (which comes from my DSL modem)
over the wireless connection, (which is supported by the USB wireless adapter)
to use it from my laptop, (which is wireless featured)
without using any other devices..? (such as a wireless modem or an acces point device)
-------if yes;
-------can any type of USB wireless adapter device be used for this?
--------------if no;
--------------what spesifications must the USB wireless adapter have according to do the job?
-------if no;
-------why?

and, is there any disadvantages of using the internet connection this way?..

Thank you all!..

I have a netgear wireless router and in the past I have hooked it up without any problems. However, I moved the router to a different location and once I try to set it up once again it isn't working properly. Once the wireless router is working my regular connection to my desktop computer isn't working. It reads as if everything is okay but once I get on the internet it times out. When I ping the system it loops back w/o a problem and pings netgear's site without a problem... but when it pings the router it's at a 100% loss... how do I correct this problem? I turned off the computer... unplugged wires...hard reset to the router... tried different configs of the wires...do not know what to do to fix this problem!!! Please help!

Your office is getting networked, and you are in charge of making the physical connections to all the machines. In the CFO's office, you encounter a machine that had been running on a small accounting network for some time, but doesn't have a RJ-45 jack for the network cable. How can this be, and what should you do about it?

I have a connection that is new to telstra bigpond: 'ADSL2'.
I have never had a connection before, however my friend has 'ADSL' and while he down loads from Lime Wire his connection speed averages at between 1 & 5KB/s.
For the past week (since connected to ADSL2), i have been connecting between 30 to 60KB/s sometimes it sits around 70 to 90! I have even clocked 110KB/s+. while downloading 9 at once!!
The last 2 days i have only been connecting between 1 & 9KB/s!!
It's a frustrating drop !Does anyone know why?
Also what Is the difference between 'T1, T3or higher, Cable DSL
and Modem.
My speed is specified in the options(limewire tools) as modem????

THANX!!
