outlook express. I'm on a wireless conection at a friends house. I can receive but not send. I get a message that my connection to the server has failed. Also, "socket error:10060 error number 0x800ccc0e. I have no problem sending messages from my home, my office, my kids' house, just cant do it from this place. I have a feeling it has to do with the wireless connection, maybe because its password protected. I don't have to do anything to connect to this wireless network. it detects and connects automatically.

Password protection and mac address blocking. On the main computer check the wireless settings and password in explorer at 198.168.2.1. This will take you to the router settings. You should be able to check the WEP settings and set the router to allow you access. Once you get the key you need to set up your laptop in network settings to automatically sign on.

Funny you should ask this question; I ran into the same situation today and Charter Communications is my provider. After much putzing around I got an error message in Outlook Express that FINALLY gave me a coherent error explanation. Turns out that Charter knows that Microsoft has a new critical security update for Outlook Express, and "sensed" that that update hadn't been installed on my pc yet. So, they allowed the receiving of e-mails, but NOT sending them. They gave a website to follow directions to correct this problem, and I've listed it below. You might want to visit that site and follow the directions. I'm presently on hold with the phone number listed, so it might take some time to resolve the issue. Good luck.
