Nothing beats hands-on experience, especially when working with Cisco. However, a general network training course is NOT going to help you very much with the Cisco CCNA exam. The exam is all about the Cisco IOS and TCP/IP subnetting. Generalized networking is barely touched upon.

From personal experience, I would recommend you sit for the CCNA exam no more than a week after you complete the course, assuming that you use the time for review and practice. If you do not plan to do any review and practice, take the exam the day that you finish the CCNA course or the next day at the latest.

You have just assimilated a vast amount of information, much of it alien to you. Some of it has given you fits -- IP subnetting for example -- and some of it is just plain non-intuitive or even illogical. That information is fragile in your mind right now. Use it or you WILL lose it! Take the exam immediately while that information is fresh in your mind.

If you must delay at all, I HIGHLY recommend the Transcender CCNA prep series!
