First go to disk defragmentation from accessories then analyze it to find out which drive shud b defragmented defragment that drive.Dont save much documents in ur harddisk.Delete the unwanted stuff and then restart after doing all these. If u find the speed havent increased then check out what operating system u have in ur computer if the os is windows xp service pack 2 and ur ram is 256 mb then put another 256 mb ram card put exactly the same ram company that u already have in ur computer so that the chip mathches with the oter ram that is present in ur computer.then restart ur computer. If the speed still does not increase then u have to change ur motherboard and u have to buy a mother board with a processor speed of more than 2.41 ghz.U can also format ur computer to increase the speed. I think this will help u.

Since you haven't told us your computer's specs, it's impossible to make an accurate recommendation. That said, adding RAM is usually the best way to speed up a machine.
Without knowing the specs of your machine or what you are doing with it, that's the best that can be said. If you're running XP on an old P-II 300 MHz box, a new computer is in order. Adding RAM might help, but it would still be a slug.

Speed of computer may depend on many factors
Run disk clean up, then run derangement.
Free some Spaces from the Hdd.
Start>run>%temp%
delet all the file.
Start>run>temp
Delat all the file
Decrease startup programs and services.
Places to look for startup programs are
Start->programs->Start up
type regedit in start->run and look for given locations
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Mic... HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Mic... HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Mi... Shell Folders
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Mi... Folders,
Make sure that your C drive's 20% area is free. Windows uses c drive for virtual memory.
if not avable
My Computer>right click>properties>Advance tab >
in performance >Settings>Advance tab>
in virtual memory>Changes .
select System Manages Size radio button .
Remove ,Uninstall any unwanted program
Automatically clear useless virtual memory pagefile on shutdown.
Start>control panel>Performance and Maintenance>
Administrative Tools>Local Security Policy>Local Policy>
Security opection> Shutdown: clear Virtual Memory pagefile >
enabled it.
You will loose some Windows effects. But I, personally prefer to have a faster computer than visual effects.
You mead ur Comp 30 % faster
My Computer>right click>properties>Advance tab >
in performance >Settings>Adjist for best performance.
Speed up your computer's boot time by disabling the Windows XP splash screen.
Start>Run>Msconfig>BOOT.INI>
click on /NOGUIBOOT
OR U can do this (BEST IDEA)

Go to start-run, type msconfig, click startup tab and disable every thing you don't need loaded into ram when you start your computer. I would guess that you probably have a bunch of stuff in there you don't even need. this will dramatically increase startup time and speed up your comp.

Run disk clean up, then run derangement, this will open up room on your hard drive and make it essayer to run and operate, the speed will pick up. The other thing I would do is replace my RAM to at least 1 gigabyte or more, and or update my processor for a new one fast then 1.8gz. Good luck.

Speed of computer may depend on many factors. One of the various option is to upgrade your harware. At lowest, you may consider to increase RAM. If you can, consider high speed RAM.
If you dont want to pgrade arware, follow following tips, they may help you
1 - Decrease startup programs and services. Places to look for startup programs are
1.a - Start->programs->Start up
1.b - type regedit in start->run and look for given locations
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell, HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer\User Shell Folders
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer\Shell Folders,
2 - Make sure that your C drive's 20% area is free. Windows uses c drive for virtual memory.
3 - defrag you harddisk (on regular interval)
4 - Uninstall any unwanted program
5 - run any spyware program.
I was used to speed up my system somewhat around 20-30% by these things. These things are very much related to startup time of your windows. If you are looking for speeding up regarding games or some heavy software, upgradation is the only option.
