Are you establishing a trust with another domain or AD forest? Trusts are established between domains or forests (AD 2003 native only). If you only have a single forest and domain, there's nothing to establish a trust with.

If you are establishing a trust with another domain or forest, proceed as follows:

1. Configure secondary zones for the other domain/forest on a DNS server in each domain/forest. Enable zone transfers to a specific DNS server in the other forest. You must do this on each side.

2. Make sure that you have connectivity between the PDC emulators in both domains. If you are establishing a forest trust, this must be the PDC emulators in the forest root domains. Ping each by FQDN. If you do not have proper name resolution, check your secondary zone configurations and fix that as you won't be able to establish the trust until this is fixed.

3. Make sure you have the ID and password for a domain administrator or enteprise administrator (for forest trusts) account in each domain/forest.

4. From a DC in either forest, run Active Directory Domains & Trusts. Right click the domain. Select Properties from the context menu. Click the Trusts tab. Click the New Trust button. Follow the prompts to establish your trust.
