That depends upon the network.

But first off, there is always a built-in account called Administrator on EVERY NT class machine. If you're running XP Home, or if you're using XP Pro with the "cartoon" login screen you won't see the Administrator account when you start the machine.

You can log in to it by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del TWICE and entering Administrator in the User Name field and the password in the Password field. If you never set an Administrator password, it will be blank.

Now that you are logged in, go to Users & Passwords (Home) or User Accounts (Pro) in Control Panel and set a complex password for the Administrator account. Make a note of the password and put it away in a secure place. Don't store it in a file on your machine; if you need it you won't be able to log on and look at it!

That all applies in a Workgroup network. If you're using an Active Directory domain, run Active Directory Users and Computers on a domain controller (or a workstation where the admin tools are installed) to manage domain user accounts. It's in the Administrative Tools program group.

When Windows XP is installed, it ALWAYS installs a Administrator account, its just hidden most of the time. Before you start messing with things (And probably lock yourself out of your computer), check your settings in Start/Control Panel/user settings.
