So, straight-through cable is used to connect between your router and your machine.

But I looked at my book one more time, and it says:

Straight-through is used to connect:
1. Host to switch or hub
2. Router to switch or hub

Crossover is used to connect:
1. Switch to switch
2. Hub to hub
3. Host to host
4. Hub to switch
5. Router direct to host

Now, I don't understand why the book says crossover is used to connect "Router direct to host". Am I not reading it right or something? Doesn't that mean a crossover cable connects between a router and a machine?

I was wondering if it is possible to connect a router to a wireless AP. The computer with the wireless ap has broadband and the reason I want to connect the 2 computers. The router is a D-Link DI-524 and the AP is a Linksys WAP54G. I don't want to swap the 2 around if I can help it.

my sister is worried about the waves my wireless router is sending off. she worries that they are harmful. she thinks that once the waves are sent off, they stay in the room, and are thus even harmful, even when you're not there, cause once you return, the waves are still there (similar to smoke that sticks to the carpet and sofas ...) is that true?

There are 10 users on an internal network. 5 of the users lose connection to the network.
What are the complete set of steps would you do to diagnose this problem?

I want to connect my computer directly to my modem. However, right now I am connected via a router (NETGEAR WPN824). I was wondering if detaching my router would make me have to config my router all over again?

I have a LAN that uses a fiber optic backbone. I want to buy a Gigabit fiber optic switch but not sure if it is compatible with 100MB fiber connection. All my switches are connected with a 100BASE FX fiber optic module. I am expanding my network but want to use 1000BASE instead to 100 BASE.
