DSL *is* high-speed internet, it *is* considered broadband.
Cable internet considered those two things as well.
The speeds and value depends on the plans that are provided in your area. Find out what cable plans are available from your provider, and do the same with the DSL plans that are available to you.
A few things you should post when asking which would be better:
The upstream and downstream speeds each plan offers.
The price of each plan.
Whether there is a limit on how much data can be transferred per month or if it's unlimited.
You need that info to weigh out the options.

DSL IS "High Speed Internet". There is no "DSL vs High Speed Internet"
There are a number of high speed internet access methods. They all have their strengths and weaknesses. Most of the time it's down to what is available in your area.
DSL - provided by the local phone company normally though there are some competitive carriers in some areas. You must be within 3 wire miles of the Central Office or remote DSLAM. Usually the cheapest option when multiple providers are available. Can be very fast and stable if you are close to the CO and the last mile wiring is fairly new.
Cable Modem - provided by the local TV cable provider. Currently not open to competition. Not limited by distance like DSL is. Frequently supports higher speeds than DSL. Tends to be more expensive than DSL. The "geeks choice" if multiple options are available locally.
Wireless - This is NOT Wi-Fi! A transmitter is frequently located on top of a water tower and a special antenna is mounted to your roof. Limited to line-of-sight. May be affected by weather. Generally slower than DSL or Cable but is an excellent option in some rural areas where DSL or Cable is not available. Priced similar to Cable.
Satellite - The slowest and most expensive. High installation costs and high monthly costs. Frequently volume limited to a rather low volume per month. Difficult or impossible to share connections among multiple computers. In very remote areas it may be the only option; the only requirement is a clear view to the southern sky.
Wi-Fi - Short range solution. Must generally be less than 200 feet from an access point. Typically found in cafes, hotels, etc. A few cities are toying with Wi-Fi for the more densely populated areas.
Wi-Max - Similar to Wi-Fi but supports somewhat longer ranges, often up to several hundred feet. A better option for campus or city center deployments since fewer base stations are needed.

DSL is high speed. With cable your speed will vary depending on how many people are on in your area. With DSL, you get a dedicated amount. There are different price option for each. The higher the cost, the faster it will be.

I've had both DSL (SBCYahoo) and cable (Mediacom) modem in my home. Even when both companies were quoting pretty much the same speeds, the cable modem was significantly faster. Since then the cable company has increased the speed even more. I used to have to power down and unplug my DSL modem to refresh it all the time too, which was a huge pain in the ***. Even though, in my area, cable modem is more expensive, its worth it. Plus, SBCYahoo service installed their version of Internet Explorer browser which was highly unstable. I don't have any extra software from Mediacom that I didn't choose to install myself. Go cable, less hastle, higher speed, more dependable.
