I work at a dealership and one of the Techs had me install a voltage regulator on our fork lift. After I installed it he asked me if I energized the volt. reg. I said no cause I had no idea what he was talking about, I'm 21 and that 's way before my time. I was just wondering if anyone can tall me how? He also mentioned something about setting the polarity. None of the other tech remembered how to do it. And all I can tell you about the regulator is that its 3 wires and thats it. Any help would be appreciated.

P.S. If anyone is thinking about becoming a fork lift tech, your crazy. I had to put a starter in it and that was a pain, took 3 hours.

I have a 93 grand prix and I got a new air filter for my car and the fit and build quality was much worse than my old one wich was an STP. On the Purolator the rubber gasket was much thinner, the filter was flimsy and the gasket it self was separating from the paper!. So I returned it to Advanced and I looked at another one and the same thing was happening on that one.

When i turn on my car and go from "P" to "D" the car goes but then a couple of seconds later when i press it the car engine revs but it does not move and then it makes a noise and keeps going. This also happens when i try and do a broken U-turn and go from "D" to "R", the cars sticks. I know it has something to do with my transmission, but what is it? it only happens when i turn on the car and then it does not happen again. Why are my gears sticking like this??

I know that I need to get my front brake pads replaced and possibly front rotors resurfaced. I have a 2006 Honda Civic with almost 20,000 miles and need to know, do I also have to get the back brakes (drums) done too? I only hear screeching and a bit of grinding in the front but, is it true that I don't necessarily have to get the back brakes done right now too? I have researched that the rear drums should be replaced every 30 to 50,000 miles while the front discs should be done 15 -20,000 miles. I live in Chicago, snow, and salt. Thanks for your advice in advance.

Usually, I'm doing that when it is being put into first gear when I back out of my garage to put it into first gear. If I don't push on the accelerator then my car will stall.
At this point, I'm pushing on the clutch, and the accelerator, while going from neutral to first gear.

One night, I started up my car (1996 Dodge Stratus). The starter wouldn't disengage for about 10 minutes, even when I turned the car off and removed the key. It eventually shut off and now when I try to start it, there is just silence, not even a clicking sound. The lights do not dim when I attempt to start it, but the radio and wipers won't work, but the power windows are fine. The instrument cluster does not even show the "fasten seat belt" or the "check engine" lights in the "on" position, but the "brake" and odometer lights show. I tried jump-starting the car, but I think the batteries are fine. What seems to be the problem? Does my starter need to be replaced? Do I need a wire replaced somewhere? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My old nissan altima, which is junked now, has blew the head gasket twice, in two years, and has had so much damage to it over those years as well. Now I have a new vehicle. It's a Dodge, I'm supporting the American auto business! Do not insult my car! lol.

Anyways, being that it's a Dodge aside,

are ALL cars guaranteed to have a blown head gasket eventually/engine trouble or is that a bad luck thing which cannot be predicted?

What causes head gaskets to blow in most cases anyways, or having additional engine problems?

IS there any way to prevent this aside from regular oil changes, and checking your fluids?

Please help me if you can - I will try to give as much info as I can. I bought a used car last Monday. The steering wheel was at 10 oclock when the car was going straight (so, it was off-center) - but there was NO vibration in the steering wheel. I bought it back to the place where I got it and they "fixed" the problem. Now the wheel is perfectly straight when driving straight but I'm experiencing something I've never seen before... when I drive between 65 and 75 MPH (Yes I know the speed limit is 65) the wheel shimmys - BUT - it shimmy for a few seconds then stops for like 10 seconds!! Then it shimmys for a few seconds and stops again! I am going a constant speed when this is happening and not driving over anything rough or bumpy - I know - it sounds crazy! The only think I see is one of the rear alloy wheels has a bend in it (where the rim meets the tire it is bent a little) but I don't know if this has anything to do with it or not - the place said they rebalanced the tires!

It's an older truck, automatic transmission. When I put it in drive, it will occasionally stay in low gear for awhile. At first it wasn't really a problem because it only happened when the truck had been left to set for awhile, but now it happens all the time. Is my transmission shelling out? or is it just a part that I can replace?

I have a 216 inline six engine with a Carter carb. It is in a 1941 Chevy Coupe. The engine was running a couple months ago. I noticed the bulb would not fill up so I have checked the fuel pump. On the outgoing side of the pump fuel seems to flow but maybe there's not enough pressure. There is a vacuum device under the distributor. What is that part? How does it work? I took off the hose that leads from that little vacuum to the carb. There is no pressure or suction out of it when the car is starting with starting fluid. Could this be the problem or do I just have a weak fuel pump? If it is a bad fuel pump is it better to replace or repair? Thanks for all advise.

When I try to start my car all it does is make a weird buzzin gnoise. I'm not sure where it's coming from. I checked the battery and it's fine, the windshield whipers and all the lights turn on just fine. My car is a 1978 AMC Concord.

I have a nissan Altima 2002, the car runs good except when on the highway when going around 70mph it starts to shake violently (right side shakes). Is there any reason for this, I remember than about 5 months ago I had its wheel alignment done. But that was a different problem and the car use to tug on one side(left), but now that is fixed, but it now shakes when going above 65-70 mph.

ANY reason for this? What could be causeing This? :-(
I love the car, but if it keeps shakeing like this things are getting squeaky and loose!!!

Thanks...

My car is out of brake fluid, and i need to get it home, how well does oil work (instead of brake fluid), or could i use transmission fluid instead?

Also I've heard that putting gasoline in the radiator will help keep it cool, because the gasoline has a lower boiling point and will stay cooler...is this true? i tried this yesterday, and it doesn't seem to be running much cooler...
