My partner has just damaged drivers mirror on his car, all the wiring is still intact and the glass is fine but it isnt secured in place...the plastic bit that holds it in place is broken.
He has an M.O.T due at 7.30am.

Thanks for the advice, Taped the mirror in place and that was fine. The airbag wasnt mentioned but it still failed.
This was because the back box of the exhaust was loose and we had replaced it without realising that the conecting pipe was rusty....Thats what failed it.
Now have 10 days to replace that part and retest.
Any Idea where I can get the part from cheaply.
The modle is Purgeot 206 LX, hatchback, 1.4 ltr

there is no requirement for an airbag warning lamp but you should get an advisory notice. the rules for mirrors are that you must have 2 mirrors, one of which must be on the offside (right hand side) they should be secure & provide an adequate view to the rear. get the gaffer tape out, and secure it with that & it shouldn't fail the test. if it does ask the tester to show you where, in the testers manual it allows them to fail it. make sure they show you in the reasons for refusal on the mot computer, not in the booklet. it is a popular missconception that the car has to be in perfect condition for an mot, but it doesn't. it only has to meet the minimum requirements at the time it was tested. if you need anymore help please email me.
good luck

If the airbag warning light is on, the car will fail its MOT. If the mirror is not properly secured to the door of the car, it will also fail for this.

If the wing mirrors are factory fitted on that model, they need to be in place and functional for the MOT.
All factory fitted warning lamps and dasboard lights must work, though a kind MOT mechanic would just put a bulb in there for you.

Tape it in place. Just like tyres with screws/nails in the tread, it will get a 'advisory notice' to replace.

I'd say it will probably fail, if it's hanging loose it would be considered dangerous. If it's just broken but still in place it might be ok, but I'm only guessing.

what is an M.O.T.? If it is some type of vehicle inspection or driving test then the answer is YES. It will affect the test or inspection because the mirror counts as saftey equipment and if it won't stay put then he will be failed for fualty equipment and not allowed to take the test.
