ok. i have a mercury sable 1990 and there's smoke coming out of the hood! The last time this happened for a while and then the car died when i was driving it (in the middle of the darn street!!) took it to the mechanic and they said/replaced what they said is the water tank? it cost more than $200 to replace it! the car was fine. less than a month later the car started smoking again!!! A couple weeks after it started up again i went to get the oil changed ( way overdue) and they never said that anything was wrong (other than the belt needed to be replaced). As of know its still smoking...what in the world is wrong with it?

it has been harder to crank on colder mornings. this morning was coldest yet and it simply would not start. but it is not the battery. put a new one in plus a new alternator and starter. (f150). is turns over good but either not getting fire of gas. have two tanks, neither is blocked. new gas filter. new spark plugs. it is a "new" rebuilt engine and runs great except this new problem. may not be weather but sure seems like it. really puzzled. help?

Is it easy to be mistaken at the pumps? Or are these people just dimwits?

It can cost £2000 to repair a diesel engine when petrol has passed through the fuel pump.

I need to replace the fuel pump and was wondering where it was located. I've heard that it is located in the tank and was not looking forward to replacing it if this is the case.

My car was in good running condition. Then one day I decided to buy fuel injector cleaner. I put it in my car and the very next day my car started to hesitate. There was a strong gas smell as I drove my car. I took my car for a diagnostic and I was told that my injectors are being flooded. The injectors are getting to much fuel. (car flooding) I took my car to a garage so he can repair it. He stated that its not flooding and that it was the fuel filter. Car work good for a few days and then it started hesitating again. Strong gas smell still exists. When driving, I constantly smell a strong gas odor and the car hesitates badly.

1. car hesitates
2. strong gas odor
3. black smoke comes out of muffler
4. car shuts off as I'm driving

I have a Nissan Pathfinder, but would like to know the general rule of thumb to have automotive brakes inspected and possibly shoes & pads replaced in order to avoid complete replacement of rotors and brakes every couple of years.

I have a 94 probe, and this other guy has a 93 camaro. We are thinking about trading even, but he says that the axle bearings need to be replaced.. What exactly is this currently hurting on the car and how much do you think it would take to get fixed?

The guy just said it needs axle bearings so what can i expect?

Hi, I have a 2000 Renault Megane 1.4L. Recently brake fluid has been leaking from the top of the container where you top up the brake fluid. I have not topped up the level recently (ages ago in fact!!)
Quite surprisingly, the brake fluid level has gone up as well, without any top up.
Can anybody daignose this particular problem?

Car was leaking antifreeze from hoses then over heated. Now I have either a cracked gasket or cylinder. Repair shop says $1500 to fix bc of taking apart engine and labor, is this worth it?

2007-11-07 03:39:37 · 10 answers · asked by Crystal Lite 1

Reason I ask is because my check engine light was on and the car was sorta shaking so I thought the reason was because it needed an oil change so decided to the the tuneup. I got my car back today and realize it is worse than it was to begin with on the shaking part. When I stop the car it shakes really badly and guess what the light never went away. I paid about $120 bucks for this to be done and it's even worse. What should I do about this? My hubby says it's something else that it needs besides the tuneup and that its sorta my fault because I wasn't responsible with taking care of the car. Any suggestions?

Do all guys (and girls!) think it is that unusual to see a woman working on a vehicle and not just washing it?!
I mean I was wearing my overalls, not a skirt and high heels!!

I am not sure whether I should go to the dealer for regular maintenance, or if just any Tire/Auto Repair, Sears, STS, etc... is just as good.

i bought a seat ibiza from arnold clark in april, i paid for the car cash in hand - it was £4.000. they only gave us a months warrenty with the car (which they neglected to tell us)
ive had to fill the oil up 4 times since i bought it and the car really struggles going up hills. there is a rattling noise coming from the tail pipe. i had a friend take a look and he said the piston caps are worn away. there is oil leaking from the exhaust too. the engine is clean and as far as he could see there was nothing wrong.
my quiestion is - any ideas on why it struggles going up hills? its a sporty car, it shouldnt be having problems with hills.

arnold clark are taking nothing to do with the car.

the car is a citreon saxo. when i drive, and let go of the gas, there is a grinding noise coming from the middle of the front of the car. the noise also comes, when i press the clutch and the brakes. it is not the breaks as i have had them checked. this noise only starts once i have driven for a long period, therefore the mechanic cannot find where the noise comes comes from. can anyone please help me out, as this problem is embarasing, and my girlfriend gets anoyed at me.. thank you, and look forward to hearing from you guys.

I am considering buying a car and am slightly paranoid due to my lack of knowledge even though the guy I'm supposed to be buying it from is trustworthy. The car had a noisy clutch and a friend of mine says this means it has a problem with its clutch plate or cable and so wouldnt have passed the mot that it allegedly just has, he reckons that the mot certificate is dodgy and that I should report it. I was hoping that maybe someone could clear this matter up for me are there any MOT testers who can help?
