I need to replace the fuel pump and was wondering where it was located. I've heard that it is located in the tank and was not looking forward to replacing it if this is the case.

It's in the gas tank.

Its in the fuel tank. If you live in a location that uses road salt in the winter you may find you will have to replace the not only the pump but the entire tank insert. You can buy a complete assembly with the fuel pump.
Autozone sells the complete module. See web site below.

Inside the fuel tank. There's an access port in the center top of the tank. The straps have to come off and the tank completely removed from the car.

in the fuel tank have a 98 silverado&it went out a little while back did not have time to replace myself so took it to the shop cost about 500.00 pump alone was at 300.00

fuel pumps are in the top of the tanks. they pressurize the whole system. It is a combo of fuel pick-up, fuel pump, and sending unit.

if you cant locate it by the gas tank you will have to take the gas tank off and you might locate it

It is in the tank.

Check under the carpet for a access hole.

I work on to many to remember if your has 1 or not.

And I'm not at the shop to look it up for you.
