i bought a seat ibiza from arnold clark in april, i paid for the car cash in hand - it was £4.000. they only gave us a months warrenty with the car (which they neglected to tell us)
ive had to fill the oil up 4 times since i bought it and the car really struggles going up hills. there is a rattling noise coming from the tail pipe. i had a friend take a look and he said the piston caps are worn away. there is oil leaking from the exhaust too. the engine is clean and as far as he could see there was nothing wrong.
my quiestion is - any ideas on why it struggles going up hills? its a sporty car, it shouldnt be having problems with hills.

arnold clark are taking nothing to do with the car.

Sounds like there are a couple of problems with this car. First the noise from the exhaust sounds like one or more of the internal baffles have come loss. Not really a problem but still an annoyance.
The main problem seams to be that the garage have sold you a lemon. If the car is burning oil as bad as you say it is then my conclusion would be that the piston rings are either worn or broken.
The is a couple of very simple things you can do to confirm this, first remove the spark plug. Check the ends of the spark plugs to see if there is oil on them. If so then there is a serious problem.
If you can get a engine compression tester use it to see the difference between each of the cylinders.
The next thing to do is in righting tell the garage that you intend to have the car fully inspected by the RAC and that they have 14 days to come to an arrangement with respect to the repairs.
If you gat no joy from them, then you will need to get the RAC to do a road side inspection on the car. They will then hand over a full report with all the cars faults.
Next step is in righting send the report to the garage and tell them that they have another 14 days to fix the car at there cost or you will be sending the report to trading standards.
If you still have no joy report the whole sorry tale to trading standards and let them sort it out.
Good luck.

It is a very worn engine that has hardly any power left in its motor the piston rings are worn and it causes the oil to burn and the noise at the exhaust is the death rattle~~

You bin had, sweetie. May be clean on the outside, but it's slapping around like an old hooker inside. The only option is to get a reconditioned or second hand motor fitted, depending on whether you want to keep it or not. Get a reco motor if you want to keep it and a second hand one if you don't, then flog it off privately if you want some money for it.
