three days ago I cleaned my cars windscreen with soap and water to remove tar(bitumen) droplets that had been splattered on the windshield along a road under construction.I had used a scouring pad to rub off the rather stubborn marks. on completion I smeared an antiglime solution to leave a smooth finish to the job.
Am now notricing that the glass has multiple scrathes that appear as haloes against oncoming traffic lights at night and I cant see the road clearly. do anyone out there know of any scratch removing technonoloy to save me from replacing this bothersome windscreen?

The parts won't be ready until next week and I have to drive from San Francisco to LA this weekend (round trip about 800 miles). Also, I was told I need rear pads and turn rotors. Is it safe?

I had a leaking coolant reservoir, so I replaced it with a lidded kitchen container. The coolant now splashes around alot because the kitchen container doesn't get deep and narrow at the bottom like proper coolant reservoirs. I'm sure it must suck in air when I go around a corner or over bumps.

i have a 99 mazda protege which makes loud thumping noises when i go over the smallest of bumps. I have checked the struts, the bearings, the ball joints, control arms,cv joints and nothing on the suspension seems bad. The engine mounts are fine also but i just cant find whats making this noise.

I just recently changed my rear break pads and rotors on a '93 eclipse. The brakes seem to be working fine, but they are giving off a very strange almost burning smell.
If there is anyone that may know what this is, can you please help. I greatly appreciate it.

I once slammed the door shut with the lock on to find the keys were still inside. i was 2 minutes from the local police station so i went in and asked for help. Believe it or not they handed me a huge bunch of keys and said try them then come back. I opened the door easily with one of them........ I know now we have the little warning alarm in our cars to remind us about such things..... Good job!

My 4Runner is in excellent shape with only 63k with the exception of the roof. I periodically waxed the car but was lazy and neglected the roof. Now there are those blotches of sun damage where the paint seems to have melted away and looks bad over about 50 percent of the roof. The rest of the paint is fine. I want to sell it and was wondering if its worth it to get that area touched up and what it would cost. I have a greenish blue original paint and how close can they match it up? Any help is appreciated!

since the surface of the intake manifold is flat where the hairline crack is i had an idea. (drill the ends of the crack so that the crack doesn't spread. Then take 2 screws through washers, through a fashioned metal plate, through a somewhat matching o ring and some silicone, and into the intake manifold). Does anyone think this will work? if not do you have any ideas. I don't really have the money to buy a new intake because of school.

It is currently a gray Mercedes Benz CLK ... I would however like to give it a pearlescent white with a hint of purple paint job ... done with the best quality about how much may this cost.
Also wondering is it more difficult to paint a black car white than it is a gray one or it does not matter.

I have a 1998 Buick Century, bought with 75,000 miles and now have 109,000 miles. My mechanic told me that because the antifreeze is leaking into the engine, it is going to ruin the engine and I would therefore have to have all the cylinder heads replaced, at an estimated cost of $1,500. I don't have that kind of money! Isn't there any other alternative; can't I just fix the antifreeze somehow to stop it from leaking into the engine and get a new head gasket put on? I know mechanics sometimes think "hey, there's a woman, she'll be mechanically stupid so I'll just charge as much as I can" and I can't afford that right now, any suggestions would be appreciated.

my father in law has always been interested in motor cars, he is a engineer, the problem is i just bought a project car 66 mustang. I've asked people certain questions on restoring the car and they have always suggested the way i would do things. the problem with my father in law is that he likes to go for the quick and cheap alternative of doing things "right". i'e reverting in floor pans as opposed to welding or using sheet metal over buying floor pans, or any primer in the shed compared to buying paint and spraying with a hvlp gun. how could i politely tell him that I'm doing it my way - keep in mind my car is in his driveway and i've only been married to his daughter for 6 months.

I got the previous post problems fixed by bypassing a wire from another live wire from in back of fuse box. This got my rear Back-up lights working, along with Signal lights also. But still no HORN...Here's the latest problem I diagnosed with this is there's power in the fuse for the horn located in the fuse panel, still NO HORN. I noticed it has duel standard horns which two sets of wires branch off to plug into the two horns right below one another. So, I tested them direct from battery with wires, 1 works, 1 don't...I disconnected the one that don't, and left the one that does plugged in, still NO HORN. I can't pop the stearing wheel cover off because of the air bag. The horn button is small black buttons on left and right side of steering wheel. But I still have power from the fuse box in the HORN FUSE slot...what should I do so I can get a horn working again? Any help please...

I have been having intermittent problems with the hvac (passenger cabin) fan. The issue first started when running the A/C in the summer, while steering the fan would make a squealing sound. Around the same time the A/C was dripping water on the passenger floor. I had the shop fix the while the car was in for inspection (clogged drain line) and I replaced the passenger cabin air filter at the same time.

Shortly after the A/C dripping was fixed the squealing of the fan started to happen more frequently and not just when I was steering. The one day while the fan was on low speed and the climate control set to vent I smelled an electrical burning smell coming out of the vents. I turned off the fan for the remainder of the drive. When I tried to turn the fan on later Speed 1 (what the fan was set to when the burning smell came out) did not work. However speeds 2-5 worked ok. Soon though the burning smell came back and all speeds of the fan ceased to work.

I need some advice before I take my car in again. I have a 1997 Chrysler LHS. Several months ago (in May or June) I took my car into a shop and paid over $400 to have a Tie Rod bushing replaced. Well, about two weeks ago, I started having the exact same symptoms again!! Took the car into the same shop and they were very hesitant to look at the car again. When they finally did they told me the problem was on the other side this time (they claim they replaced the right bushing and now the left one and the actual tie rod ends are bad.) Took it to another shop and they say the right bushing is actually the worst off, and that the other shop should have replaced both bushings at once because they come in a kit. This new shop says that it doesn't really look like they fixed anything!!!! I say the other shop should refund my more that $400 so I can have it properly fixed (which is now going to cost me $600!!!) I am furious! Does anyone know if I am entitled to a refund over this?
