I used to see this a lot in the old days....does the engine have a mechanical fuel pump mounted at the front of the engine and a carbeurator?

In 1985, most were fuel injected, but a few did come with a carb, and mechanical fuel pump.

I'm betting it does....the diaphram is bad in the fuel pump, and it is allowing fuel to enter the crankcase.

The only way to fix it is to replace the fuel pump. As I recall, Ford used a lever and eccentric to operate the fuel pump. Be careful when you install the new pump to make sure the lever is at the BOTTOM of the eccentric. It's possible to put it at the top, and you'll shear the lever off of your new pump the first time you start the car.

What you do to make sure this doesn't happen is to angle the pump when you go to install it so that the lever is pointing nearly straight down. Then, hand start the bolts--you'll find that you're pushing a bit against the spring on the lever.

If there is a lot of fuel in the oil it could be your fuel pressure regulator is bad and leaking too much gas to burn. Look at your injectors when the car is running and see if they are dripping/running or spraying a mist. If no mist then you have a problem.
