Once locked myself out of a works' van, in the middle of nowhere. Eventually just smashed the window to get in!
When we got back, we told the boss someone had tried to break in when we were parked up. He was so glad the van and it's contents weren't nicked, he was almost happy to phone Autoglass!!

I've learned to leave a spare set of keys with my dad. Is cheap insurance that.
But I do have a funny story about car keys. Some years back, I had drove to the supermarket at night. So as to not drag the trolley back out to the parking lot, I loaded up my arms with the bags with my keys in hand. I walked to where I thought I had parked y car, Turned the key and put the bags on the empty seat. I got in and started the car. I was about to pull out when I realized that I did not have a plastic Jesus on my dashboard! I quickly shut off the car, grabbed my bags and got out. I looked around to see if anyone was watching. I looked about and saw my nearly identical car one row over and a couple more spots down. I was later told that the odds of my key fitting a like car was like one in 9,999 and the odds of it fitting one the same color was like 10 times that!
How Embarrassing!

I got locked IN my car once. My husband had been fitting an alarm and for some reason it activated with me and my small son in it. I escaped by clambering over into the back seat, pulling the release cable on the hatch and getting out that way. BOY was the air blue, my son thought it was hilarious though, as his whole school was watching. We laughed alot afterwards as it must have been funny, seeing a 28 year old not using the usual way of getting out of a car. I think everyone thought I'd gone mad!
I think about it often and it brings back happy memories of a time when my son was alive.

We locked ourselves out by putting the keys down in the boot when the boot shut, the car was locked.!!!! We had a 3 hour drive to the Ferry with only 4 hours to spare.
Asked a neighbour for help, who accidently broke the back window. Had to clean the glass away because of the dogs. Caught a later ferry.....but we did laugh, because we got him out of bed on a Sunday morning.....we could have broken the window ourselves, and saved him the trouble!!!!......lol

It is a nightmare isn't it! I did it once, but luckily it was one of the older type Range Rovers and the tail gate had a seperate key, not joined to the central locking, lucky for me, I still had to climb in the back ,across the seats to retrieve them from the ignition. I always have a huge bunch of keys, so I can't miss them now!

I had a basic spare key with the plastic bit cut off so It fits in my wallet. It won't start the engine or even disable the alarm but it will open the door and boot.

I keep a spare key to the doors duct taped to the inside of the bumper so i can get in. Ive also heard of using a powerful magnet and hooking a spare key to it and putting it under the car somewhere where you can get to it easy. A spare key somewhere is the way to go.

Borrowed a thin screwdriver, and was amazed to find I could lift the plunger by wiggling in the pivot gap under the handle. It was a model from about 1989 though - don't suppose it would happen now.

I found a bit of fairly flexible wire and manipulated it until I could push it through the rubber seal and push it tight against the pull up button then flicked it open ~~
