I witnessed a "machanic" measure cylinders for a friends race car motor he was paid to rebuild for him, with a $12.00 plastic measure.

I guess I should add that he ordered parts befor he measured anything and they were completely wrong so he took parts from various different (old) motors. Kept the new parts for himself. I just wonder if other machanics agree with this type of thing. (the motor didnt make it once aroud the track by the way)

A very unsuccessful one with little training , modern engines are not toys and work with exact tolerances , racing engine are even more exacting at 6000 or 7000 rpm the slightest fault will rap the engine up in a flash. I worked on them for two years had to give it up the strain was intolerable

as long as it is accurate then whats the problem. They can actually make things out of plastic that works. I do agree that i would prefer an real mic. But if this is accurate then there should not be a problem. So it really depends on the quality and accuracy of the measurement marking. Also how close is the tolerance. If it is not a close tolerance part then it should not be affected as much by a cheap tool.

Subaru STI. It's awd so you'll have alot of traction so you can load massive HP in it with all of it getting power to the ground instead of spinning the tires all of 1&2 gear.

So are you saying plastic can't be accurate? Just think yourself lucky it cost him $12 and not 25 cents.
