in time yes all soft tops do, just buy a cover as added protection and keep the cover if it is vinyl or leather well oiled to help save it from the weathers

Two things to consider.
The soft top is not totally damp proof and so the car will get a bit clammy inside, also the thermal insulation on a jeep's soft top is effectively non existent so in cold weather there will be condensation inside. You can deal with this if there is air-con fitted.
The stitching will absorb water and can be damaged if it freezes.
The simple answer has been given by another answerer; Use a cover but also make sure the car is ventilated

Soft tops are not really designed for severe winter weather so the material is likely to degrade significantly over the season. How well it will hold up depends on whether you live in Minnesota or Florida.

I have a soft top on my jeep and it has had no problems with the actual top, but the windows are clear plastic and if they get cold, they crack very easy. Make sure that before you fold the windows if you open them, that the car is heated up or you do it really carefully. I have replaced them 3 times in the past 2 years because of that.

If it's new a few years rain and occasional frost won't be a problem if it's a few years old assume that it's had no real care, then you'll have to start doing it. There are loads of care products for soft-tops (leather and vinyl) I'd opt for doing the maintenance twice as often as recommended, it ,ight be a pain but so is drying car carpets that have got wet.

The key thing with a soft top is to maintain it, try to remove any water that collects on it over night. Use plenty of soft top cleaner/conditioner.

My cousin did to her car and it was fine. Except someone graffitied on it with a permanent marker.
