The parts won't be ready until next week and I have to drive from San Francisco to LA this weekend (round trip about 800 miles). Also, I was told I need rear pads and turn rotors. Is it safe?

What kind of car are you talking about? Rear shocks do not do much of the shock absorber work. Leaking shocks may still have a little absorbtion function. You will need your brakes in L.A. Front engine cars need bigger, more powerful brakes to do 80% of the stopping action. Defective shock absorbers will cause increased tire tread wear. You should be OK for another 800 miles if you have already paid for repair parts in S.F. Make sure your car insurance is paid up.

A leaking shock will not cause immediate danger. It could effect how the car handles in an emergency situation though. As far as your brakes go it just depends how much pad is left. If you are not hearing grinding or squealing you are still okay. That does not mean it won't start squealing during your trip. It would be best to find out how much life you have left on the brakes before going on your trip.

The leaking will probably result in reduced damping when you drive over bumps. This means that the wheel can bounce off the road, leading to reduced grip in cornering on a bumpy road. As long as you drive carefully and take curves at a safe speed, it will not be a problem.

don't worry about the shock but you need to slap some pads on it if you're going to go 800 miles...don't worry about the rotors just put new pads back on when you do the rotors

Yes, it's probably been like it for a while and as long as you drive normally it will be fine.
