I never heard that you need to remove the old paint to have someone paint your car. You might have misunderstood.

Even the cheapest places will do prep work (although they charge if it is more than a minimal amount). A cheap place will tape over the parts like the antennas and lights and an expensive place will remove most of those things and reinstall them.

1. Remove all trim, door handles, headlights, tail lights, marker lights, any glass, etc.
2. Mask off what is not removed
3. Using a DA sander and 80-400 grit paper, start sanding. Grit depends on damage sanding.
4. Goal is not to sand to silver metal, but to feather out all chips and to scuff the surface enough the new paint will stick.
5. After sanding, a full coat of primer is needed and then that will need to be sanded as well.

If you know what you are doing, have the tools, supplies, figure at least 1 complete day of work. If you do not know what you are doing, figure a week of trial and error.

This is going to sound crazy! I have 3 differnet suggestions. 1st try the Mr Clean magic erasers, 2nd, use paint thinner, 3rd use buffing compound found anywhere, even auto parts store. I have used all 3 with good results.
