turn the ignition on so the steering lock is operating

Sometimes the wheels being turned to one side or the other will cause the steering wheel to "lock up". Turn the key to the unlock position and apply steering pressure right or left while trying to turn the key. If this doesn't work you may have a bad lock cylinder.

turn on the ignition key,if it is on and the wheel is still locked try to pull the key out just alittle like half a tooth on the key. if that works try to get a new key it's cheaper than replacing the inition, witch is what comes next.
