My car is out of brake fluid, and i need to get it home, how well does oil work (instead of brake fluid), or could i use transmission fluid instead?
Also I've heard that putting gasoline in the radiator will help keep it cool, because the gasoline has a lower boiling point and will stay cooler...is this true? i tried this yesterday, and it doesn't seem to be running much cooler...

I'd reccommend blinker fluid instead of oil. Not as thick.

these dealers ar not selling all that many cars anymore, so they are starting to concentrate on doing repairs. Now for a dealer to tell you a story that is clouded with doom and not give you an intelligent explanation of just what it actually is,,,,is ludicrous. Your car only has 35000 miles on it,,,it is still a baby. You probably dont need anything very serious atall. Brake fluid normally goes down in the resivoir as the brakes wear--- it fills the void. Transmission fluid sometimes gets changed around 50 or 60 thousand miles. If the trans fluid is red then everything is okay. Not once in your post did you mention a problem with the car. Get a neighbor you know to check the fluid levels for you. And one thing more; Never get a transmission flush,,never,,,i dont care what they tell you,,,never get it done. And one more thing---stay the hell away from any jiffy lube. Find a local privately owned garage for oil changes etc.

I hope these guys are joking, ONLY use brake fluid of the correct grade in the brake system or you are if for a big repair bill and probably going to die in a crash! Also brake fluid is hydroscopic (absorbs water from the atmosphere) and should ideally be replaced anually. Do NOT put anything except water or coolant into the radiator!

Try using water instead of brake fluid. And to keep the radiator cool I suggest using a mixture of flour and water.

I usually use gas in the brake fluid reservoir and motor oil in the radiator,it will keep your engine lubricated better and makes the waterpump run a lot smoother and in return it helps cool the engine better.

There is no such thing as blinker fluid. You can ONLY use brake fluid. If you put anything else in there not only will you not be able to stop, but you will also cost yourself alot of money replacing your entire brake system!!! And I hope you are kidding about the gas in the coolant. Also brake fluid doesn't just evaporate, you must be leaking fluid somewhere.

If you're stuck for brake fluid, you can drain some of the headlight fluid out and dilute it 1:4 with water. Simple.

I saw a movie once where they peed in the radiator. I bet you can pretty much pee in anything and it would work long enough to get you home. Be careful not to burn yourself, and, of course, this repair is much easier if you are a guy than a girl.

You don't really need brake fluid. That's just something the mechanics throw in to rip you off. They try that with me all the time, but I just say Nuh-Uh! I'm not stupid!
