When I try to start my car all it does is make a weird buzzin gnoise. I'm not sure where it's coming from. I checked the battery and it's fine, the windshield whipers and all the lights turn on just fine. My car is a 1978 AMC Concord.

Either the starter is dead or the battery is dead...possibly both. If you can jump start it, take it to a parts store to test the battery for free.

Did you check the battery with a meter or just by turning on the wipers etc..? the battery will run wipers etc. when low but may not have enough power to turn the engine over. also check your starter.

Make sure the terminals on the battery, starter solenoid, and starter are all clean and tight. A bad connection can make a buzzing/sizzling sound.

Disconnect the battery and sparkling the battery posts and the connectors on the ends of the battery cables, in case you have a battery charger, fee the battery for some hours previously attempting to start it. If that doesn't paintings, better than in all probability, the battery has long gone undesirable.

starter motor or bendix may be stuck or broken - battery may be a little dead despite lights windowscreen wipers on-and not enough to turn engine over.
Most probable I would have thought was a bad earth to starter motor

you may be missing teeth on either your flywheel, or starter, also the solenoid might not be pushing the starter gears far enough to engage the flywheel...
